步入广西大学，仿佛来到了风光旖旎的美丽花园。草木葱茏，鸟语花香，亭台楼榭，曲径通幽。满眼的绿,满眼的锦簇花团，令人留恋忘返。
Stepping on the campus of Guangxi University, one seems to be in a beautiful garden, where there are grass and woods with fragrant flowers and singing birds, and buildings surrounded by quiet meandering paths.
翻开卷帙浩繁的中国教育史册，追溯广西高等教育之源，我们发现，早在1928年，著名教育有、科学家马君武博士等先贤就在梧州的蝴蝶山创建广西第一所高等学校——广西大学，开启了广西高等教育之先河。
Opening the history of China Education to explore the source of Guangxi higher education, we find that as early as in1928, Dr. Ma Junwu, a prominent educator and scientist and other early educators founded Guangxi University, the first higher education institution in Guangxi, thereafter the beginning of Guangxi higher education.
1936年，广西大学发展成为文、理、工、农、医等多学科的综合性大学，并迁址桂林。1939年，广西大学由省立改为国立，在为当时在国内颇具影响的大学。
1996年10月，广西大学通过了“211工程”主管部门预审。
1997年4月，广西大学与广西农业大学合并，亲组建广西大学学科门类齐全，优势得到互补，呈现出强劲的发展势头。
In 1936, the university was developed into a comprehensive one with disciplines in liberal arts, sciences, engineering, agriculture and medicine, and was moved to Guilin.
In 1939, it was promoted from a provincial university to a national university and became a major university in the country at that time.
In October, 1996, Guangxi University passed the “211 Project pre-examination by the state authorities.
In April, 1997, Guangxi University and Guangxi Agricultural University merged into the new Guangxi University with more complete academic disciplines, where
1998年，广西大学迎来70周年校庆，江泽民总书记提笔殷切勉励：“百年大计，教育为本，团结奋斗，努力好广西大学。” 1999年6月，国家发展计划委员会批复同意广西大学作为国家“211工程”项目学校在“九五”期间进行建设，广西大学正式进入国家“面向21世纪重点建设的100所高校”行列。
In 1998 when Guangxi University greeted its 70th anniversary, Jiang Zemin, Secretary General of the Communist Party of China (CPC), wrote the following inscription of encouragement: “Education is the foundation in our long-term development; get united and do a good job in running Guangxi University”. In June, 1999, the State Planning Commission approved Guangxi University as a “211 Project” university under construction in the “9th Five Year Plan”. Since then, Guangxi University was officially included in the 100 key universities under construction toward the 21st century.
A new multi-disciplinary structure came into being, in which its disciplines of liberal arts, social and natural sciences, life science, technology, modern engineering and management developed coordinately.
学校形成了人文、社会、自然、技术、生命、现代工程和管理等多学科协调发展的新格局。
办学规模不断扩大，办学层次逐步提高。学校现有6个博士点，74个硕士点，3个专业硕士学位授权点，76个本科专业。各类在校生4万多人，其中博士、硕士研究生近2500人，全日制本专科生2万多人，成人教育学历生2万多人。2002、2003年研究生数招生数均居全国地方性高校第六位，西部地区高校首位。
The University is growing both in its scale and academic quality. At present, it has 6 doctoral degree programs, 74 master degree programs, 3 professional master degree programs, and 76 undergraduate programs. The university has over 40,000 students, and among them, 2,500 are doctoral degree and master degree students, over 20,000 are full-time undergraduates or students of 3-year college education, 20,000 are students of adult education. In 2002 and 2003, Guangxi University ranked the sixth among local universities in the country in terms of the number of post-graduates recruitment, and took the lead in the local universities in the western region of China.
多媒体综合教学大楼规模大装备新，建筑面积10500平方米，能同时容纳6000个学生上课，全部为多媒体教室。现代 化教育技术在这里得到充分利用。投资达6850万元的新图书馆已经启用，建筑面积29112平方米，图书馆藏书200万册，是广西规模最大、现代化程度最高的图书馆。
The newly equipped Multi-media Classroom Building, with a floor space of 10,500 square meters, can accommodate 6,000 students at the same time. All the classrooms are equipped with multi-media facilities, and modern instructional technologies are fully exploited here. The new library, with an investment of 68.5 million Yuan RMB and a floor space of 29,112 square meters, has been put into use. It has a collection of 2 million books and it is the largest and most modern library in Guangxi.
教学与科研对高校的发展如车之两轮、鸟之双翼，科学研究是学校提高教学质量、学科建设水平的基础性和前导性工作。广西大学紧紧围绕广西经济建设和社会发展需要，按照“有所为，有所不为”的方针，不断探索科研新路子，树立新目标，使科研水平不断创新高。
Teaching and research are like a cart’s two wheels or a bird’s two wing as to the development of an institution of higher learning. Scientific research is the basic and guiding work to improve the quality of teaching and the construction of disciplines. Guangxi University, with Guangxi’s needs of social and economic development, continuously explore new ways and set new goals to improve the level of scientific research by adhering to the principle of “Doing what we can do well and leave what we are short of resources”.
有人说，21世纪是生物学的时代，人类对基因的研究方兴未艾。广西大学生物技术与亚热带生物资源开发利用学科在该方面的研究始于20世纪80年代初，一直处于国内先进水平，取得了多项具有理论研发和应用价值的成果。

学科完成了“野油菜黄单胞菌全基因组测序及功能基因组学”、“低毒病毒寄主因子的功能性克隆”项目；
The University has completed the projects of “Complete ordering of the Genomes of Monad Bacterium in Wild Rapes and Study on Its Functional Genomes”, and “Functional Cloning of Depending Genes in Low Toxicity Virus”.
所承担的“863”计划“甘蓝腐病黄单胞菌全基因组序列测定”项目，是我国第一个植物病源细菌全基因组序列测定项目。
The complete ordering of the genetic groups of decaying disease monad bacterium in cabbages is a project in the “863 Program” and it is the first project in our country to order the genetic groups of plant disease bacterium sources.
基因工程菌生产的“α-乙酰乳酸脱羧酶”1999荣获国家经贸颁发的“国家级新产品”称号，列为国家重点新产品。

The Three-gorge Hydropower Project that attracted the world attention started, and at the research projects bidding meeting, the key discipline of structural engineering and hydropower resource development of the Hongshui River won 4 research projects. It has solved a series of problems of stress distribution on steel liner concrete pressured tubes, temperature stress testing method etc. In addition, it has achieved significant breakthroughs in three-dimensional model manufacture and load adding facilities.
在广西“甜蜜的事业”中，广西大学甘蔗糖业工程学科发挥了重要的技术支撑作用。近年来，该学科通过省级鉴定科研成果共48项，其中1项达国际先进水平，3项为国内领先水平，19项达国内先进水平。
The discipline of sugar cane and sugar engineering plays an important role in the technical support for Guangxi’s “Sweet Project”, It has 48 research achievements that have passed the examination at the provincial level, among which, 1 is at the international leading level, 3 are at the national leading level and 19 has reached the advanced level in the country.
广西大学是我国最早确定对外开放接收外国留学生的66所大学之一，从1962年起开始接受外国留学生，至今已为欧洲、非洲、亚洲等近40个国家培养了360多名本科生和研究生。
Guangxi University is one of the 66 first group universities that were approved to recruit international students. Since 1962, it has started to recruit international students. Up to now the University has trained over 360 graduate and undergraduates from nearly 40 countries in Europe, Africa and Asia.
学校先生与美、英、日等27个国家和地区75所高校和科研机构签订合作交流协议。与美国辛辛那提大学、肯塔基州墨海德大学签定了相互开展教学、科研合作、师生培训的协议，其中与墨海德大学的“互联网支持的英语写作教学项目”已经启动；与澳大利亚南澳大学、新加坡亚太研究所中心合作的“MBA项目”已开始实施。至今学校已选派380人教师和科研人员赴国外深造、进行科技合作担任客座教授和研究员等，500多名外籍专家、学者也先后来校进行学术交流。
The University has signed cooperation and exchange agreements with 75 universities and research institutes in 27 countries of United States, Britain, and Japan etc. It has established cooperation and exchange relationships with University of Cincinnati and Morehead State University in term of teaching and research cooperation and faculty and students training. The joint project with Morehead State University to “Teach English Writing with the Support of the Internet” has been initiated. The joint MBA program in cooperation with University of South Australia and Singapore Asian-Pacific Research Center is in progress. So far, the University has sent 380 faculty members abroad to study, teach or carry out joint research. At the same time, it has invited over 500 foreign experts and scholars to have academic activities.
今天的广西大学已成为祖国南 疆学府中一颗熠熠的明珠，是一所学科门类较齐全、办学水平较高，在人才培养和科学研究等方面都具有较强实力的地方综合性大学，她正以日益夺目的光彩辉映邕江灾害畔、八桂大地，辽阔神州。

Today’s Guangxi University has become a bright pearl in south China and it is a comprehensive local university that has relatively complete academic disciplines and high level of teaching and research. It will become an even better institution of higher learning in Nanning, in Guangxi and in the country.
